Could the 2022 Senior World Championships be held in Austria? This is the hope of the Mozart Cup Organizing Committee who announced his candidacy for this event at a press conference Thursday morning in Salzburg (AUT).
rn"We are currently examining all requirements and are confident that we will make a good application," said Carmen Kiefer, head of organisation. "The good international reputation we have achieved with the Mozart Cup will certainly help us," she added.
The current ice rink, RedBull Arena, that hosts the synchro competitions would be too small to organize such an event. The Organizing Committee is studying the possibility of using the large Salzburg Arena, a multi-functional hall that has a capacity up to 6.700 seats.
rnThe Salzburg candidacy will be submitted to the International Skating Union (ISU) in April, three years before the event. "This would be the first time that the Worlds are organized in Austria," said Carmen Kiefer who can count on a solid committee. The ISU is expected to answer this summer.
